    Centre Approves Surat Metro Rail Project

    Two corridors of the Surat Metro on March 8 received Centre’s approval. To be built at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore, the project will be implemented by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) and completed in five years. The project will be financed on a 50-50 basis by the Central and the state government. Running 21.61 km, the first corridor between Sarthana and Dream City will have 20 Metro stations. The 18.74-km corridor between Bhesan and Saroli will have 18 stations.

    Mercer’s Survey: Chennai Is The Safest City In India

    According to the Mercer’s Quality of Living rankings for 2019, Hyderabad and Pune won the title of being the most liveable cities in India. The two cities shared the 143rd position, globally. Rankings of Indian cities of New Delhi (162), Mumbai (154) and Bengaluru (149) remained unchanged from the previous year’s ranking for overall quality of living. Kolkata is ranked 160th in the list.

    Modi Lays Foundation Stone For Rs 1,800-Cr PMAY Project In Solapur

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 9 announced infrastructure and housing projects worth Rs 3,168 crore in Maharashtra’s Solapur. The projects include the four-lane laned Solapur-Tuljapur-Osmanabad section on the National Highway-211 and a housing project under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The housing project, being launched among the many infrastructure projects, would be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,811.33 crore. Under this project, over 30,000 homes will be built for the low-income group and economically-weaker section categories.

    Centre Okays Land Allotment; Chandigarh Employees’ Housing Scheme May Take Off Soon

    Over a decade after the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) launched the self-financing housing scheme for the employees of the Union Territory government, the Central government has now approved a proposal to allot 61.5 acre of land for the project. The CHB Self-Financing Housing Scheme 2008 was launched in February that year for which nearly 7,000 people applied. However, the scheme could not really take off owing to land-acquisition issues, with the Centre expressing its inability to provide land for the project.

    Delhi Metro's Blue Line To Be Extended Till Mohan Nagar

    Delhi Metro's Blue Line will be further extended to Ghaziabad's Mohan Nagar and Sahibabad as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has submitted the revised project report to the Ghaziabad Development Authority. At present, the Blue Line terminates at Noida Sector 62 and Vaishali. The proposed plan will benefit the commuters in Ghaziabad to reach central Delhi and Noida directly.
