      Despite States’ Grand Plans, Urban Homeless Left To Fend For Themselves, Says SC

      Even as the government reiterates it is committed to meeting the ambitious target of providing housing to all by 2022, the country’s top court has rapped 12 states and Union Territories over their failure to notify names of members of the panel set up by them to take care of the needs of the urban homeless. The Supreme Court on September 7 also slapped fine of Rs 1-5 lakh on these states while stating that people without shelter cannot be left to fend for themselves as government’s grand plans remained unimplemented.
