: an overviewThe largest city in Madhya Pradesh, Indore is a Tier-II city, which also serves as the headquarters of both the Indore Division and the Indore District. Located on the southern edge of Malwa plateau, the city lies on the banks of rivers Khan and Saraswati. Indore is the only city in India to have both the top-notch educational institutions, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM). Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport serves the city and is one of the busiest airport in Madhya Pradesh. The Indore Junction is an A-1 grade station, with six other railway stations in the city. National Highways 3, 59, and 59A pass through the city, along with several regional highways. A public-private partnership (PPP) scheme offers radio taxis and buses in Indore under the Atal Indore City Transport Services Ltd. There is a Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) system along with a dedicated 12-km corridor between Rajiv Gandhi Chouraha and Niranjanpur. The Narmada river is the major source of water supply in the city. The city has two drainage systems, the sanitary sewage system and the storm drainage system.
Indore is witnessing several infrastructural developments, including the creation of information technology (IT) corridors and upgraded healthcare facilities. The Indore Development Authority (IDA) has planned five flyovers in the city. Out of five, three flyovers are being proposed on the AB Road. Constructions of over-bridges is also proposed in the city at Palasia, Vijay Nagar square, Mhow Naka and Tower Square.

The IDA has two nodes, the Chairman who is appointed by the Government of Madhya Pradesh and the Collector of the District who possesses executive powers. The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is responsible for maintaining public health, education, sanitation, recreational facilities, water supply and welfare services in the city. There are one mayor and several councillors in IMC who take care of the civic duties. Currently, IMC has 69 council members elected for five years. Indore also has a Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Construction of the Indore Metro and a rapid transit metro are proposed for the city.

Indore is home to the third-oldest stock exchange in India, the Madhya Pradesh Stock Exchange. Indore is the business and trading capital the Madhya Pradesh.
