Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on May 27 directed officials to work actively for extension of the Metro network in areas falling within the NCR, which includes Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Jhajjar and Rohtak. Khattar said the Metro rail extension would ensure ease of traffic and better public transport services to the people of the state. The CM directed officials to explore possibility of bringing the Metro network in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.

After the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) said encroachments from the government land be removed as early as possible, the municipal corporation is set to launch action against illegal constructions in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. For a planned intervention, the civic body is planning to visit each household to survey the situation and file a report on the action taken, as mandated by the HC. Over a decade after the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) launched the self-financing housing scheme for the employees of the Union Territory government, the Central government has now approved a proposal to allot 61.5 acre of land for the project. The CHB Self-Financing Housing Scheme 2008 was launched in February that year for which nearly 7,000 people applied. However, the scheme could not really take off owing to land-acquisition issues, with the Centre expressing its inability to provide land for the project.
