Visakhapatnam is the largest city in the state of Andhra Pradesh, both in terms of area and population. Situated n the coast of Bay of Bengal in the north eastern region of the state, this city is also the Financial Capital of Andhra Pradesh. It is the chief commercial hub of the state. Nestled between the Eastern Ghats mountain range and the Bay of Bengal, Visakhapatnam is often termed as the Jewel of the East Coast, and the Goa of the East Coast.
City Infrastructure
The city is part of the Golden Quadrilateral system of Indian Highways connecting Chennai and Kolkata. It is also connected by NH 5. It boasts of a comprehensive network of roads, and is served widely by APSRTC buses. Visakhapatnam Railway Station provides direct rail links to several parts within as well as beyond the state. The plan for metro rail project in the city has already been submitted to the Andhra radish Government and its first phase is expected to be completed by 2018. Visakhapatnam Airport is the busiest airport of the state, and is connected by daily flights with Dubai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, as well as various domestic locations. Besides, Visakhapatnam also serves as the gateway waterway for Andhra Pradesh, and hosts one of the largest ports of the country. It is one of the cities selected to be developed as a smart city.
