To provide quality affordable housing to the people in the state, the West Bengal Housing Board, under state urban development department, comes up with housing schemes from time to time. The Delhi-Meerut Expressway, a 438-kilometre-long highway, links national capital Delhi to Lucknow via Ghaziabad, Hapur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur and Sitapur. Although the highway has been recognised as a fast-developing affordable housing corridor in the National Capital Region (NCR), its expansion plan has assumed more significance in the wake of frequent traffic jams and lack of public transport.

The Union Cabinet on March 7 approved Phase-IV of the Delhi Metro, paving the way for the construction of three new corridors, including the Mukundpur-Maujpur corridor, the RK Ashram-Janakpuri West corridor and the Aero City-Tughlakabad corridor. The combined length of these corridors will be 61.679 kilometre, spanning 46 Metro stations, 17 underground and 29 elevated. To be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 25,000 crore, the three corridors take the Metro deeper into the national capital, improving connectivity while at the same time reducing traffic congestion.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council on March 19 approved a transition plan for the implementation of new tax structure for housing units, Revenue Secretary A B Pandey said. Reasonable time for transition would be given to developers in consultation with states, he said. Developers of new projects would, however, have to offer the GST benefit to buyers starting April 1 only.
