About
Trichy, also called Tiruchirapalli, is a city in the state of Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of Tiruchirapalli District. It is positioned almost at the geographic centre of the state, being situated 322 kilometres south of Chennai and 379 kilometres north of Kanyakumari. There are a large number of energy equipment manufacturing units in and around the city which it why it is often referred to as the Energy equipment and fabrication capital of India.
City Infrastructure
A major road and railway hub in the state, Trichy is served extensively by the state government-owned TNSTC buses, and auto rickshaws. Both intercity services and local transport to suburban areas are provided by the two key bus termini of the city. The city enjoys its strategic position at the confluence of two major National Highways NH 45 and NH 67. NH 45B, NH 210, and NH 227 also originate in the city, thus boosting its connectivity. When it comes to rail transport, Tiruchirapalli Junction is the second biggest railway station in the state and one of the busiest in India. There are also other railways stations in the city, connecting it to several prominent cities and towns in India. The Tiruchirapali International Airport lies 5 kilometres from the city centre, and it handles fivefold more international air traffic than domestic services, making it the only airport of India with this huge variation. The CSI Mission General Hospital is one of the oldest in the city, while Vasan Healthcare, a rapidly growing healthcare chain, has its base at Trichy.
