: an overview
About
The largest city in Punjab, Ludhiana, along the old bank of the Sutlej river, is a prominent industrial centre of North India. Situated 98 kilometres west of the state capital of Chandigarh on NH-95, this city enjoys a prime location on NH-1.

City infrastructure
Ludhiana Railway Station on the main Delhi-Amritsar route has lines going to Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Dhuri, and Delhi. Daily or weekly trains from here connect to several major cities, including Jammu, Amritsar, Patiala, Kanpur, Jaipur, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai.
While the Ludhiana airport is spread over more than 130 acres, the state government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Delhi for construction of the Ludhiana Metro. The two corridors of the Metro will relieve the road traffic to a large extent.
A number of key national highways, such as NH-1, NH-95, NH-11, and NH-20, pass through this city. Bus services provided by state-owned Punjab Roadways and private operators play a crucial role in the transportation services of the city. Autorickshaws, cyclerickshaws, and radio taxis are immensely popular modes of conveyance here. Also, a bus rapid transit system is currently under construction in the city.

Real estate
Once the construction of the Ludhiana Metro begins, the property prices here are expected to zoom. Those seeking to invest could consider plots in the city; there are many of them available here at affordable rates. A number of major industries in the city also boost its real estate market.
Dad Village, Gill, Gurdev Nagar, Hussainpura, and Mundian Khurd are some of the prime locations where several real estate projects are available. Being a Tier-II city, Ludhiana has properties that are more reasonably priced than those in metropolitan cities. However, with an increasing infrastructural progress and rise in manufacturing activities, the prices are gradually shooting up.

Lifestyle
When it comes to shopping, the people of Ludhiana flock to markets like Chaura Bazaar, Ghumar Mandi, Jawahar Nagar Camp, and Mall Road. The city also houses a number of large malls, such as Westend Mall, MBD Mall, Silver Arc, and Pavilion Mall. Other medium-sized malls include Flames Mall, Ansal Plaza, SRS Mall, and Govardhan City Centre.
There also are many parks within the city offering great spaces for walks and picnics. Some of these are Leisure Valley, Rose Garden, and PAU. Leisure Valley is equipped with a skating rink for speed skating and roller hockey. Guru Nanak Stadium is well-known for hosting Kabaddi matches, along with athletic games. Kila Raipur Sports Festival, commonly known as Rural Olympics, is a popular annual festival of Ludhiana that is held in Kila Raipur.
Among the many renowned universities and educational institutions serving the city are Punjab Agricultural University, Christian Medical College, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Synetic Business School, Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management, and other colleges offering courses in diverse disciplines.
