You abide by the rules set under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project Swachh Bharat Mission religiously and do all it takes to keep your surroundings clean. You might be a model citizen and yet unknowingly add to the pollution around you. Every appliance you use adds to the carbon emission thus making global warming worse and impacting climate change.

One of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gases is the air conditioners we all use without thinking for a second about its effect on the environment. As the weather keeps getting hot, our reliance on electrical appliances increases. It's a vicious circle.

India desperately needs clean energy and that includes environment-friendly appliances. If media reports are to be believed, the country is about to make a start in this direction. India, media reports say, will soon have a dedicated clean energy equity fund.

According to a Reuters report, “the Indian government and three state-run firms will jointly set up an equity fund of up to $2 billion for renewable energy companies to tap into to help New Delhi meet its clean energy goal”. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target of raising India's renewable energy target to 175 gigawatts by 2022, more than five times current usage, as part of the fight against climate change by the world's third biggest greenhouse gas emitter and to supply power to all of the country's 1.3 billion people,” the report adds.

With a greater emphasis on green energy- especially harnessing the power of the sun- the Narendra Modi government has made it clear that it is serious in its efforts to fight climate change.
