Real Estate Trends: Are Micro Mansions Future Of Opulence?

Escalating construction costs and lack of living space have led to the growing trend of micro living. This seems to be taking over the concept of living in large mansions and apartments, and redefining luxury.

Already a popular trend in the West, micro mansions, premium living in tiny spaces, is a concept that seems to be here to stay. Similar to a small independent house/villa, which is around 400–1,000 square feet in area, the eco-friendly micro mansions use superior material for construction, decoration and furnishing.

Though small in size, they are cost-effective, easy to maintain and insure. All sorts of luxuries are compartmentalised in a small space, making these bringing units on a par with conventional mansions.

Micro mansions are the ultimate living choice for people who prefer location to large space. Less money spent on exteriors result in premium interiors and a bigger living space. Prominent interior decorator Peter Dunham has claimed that living in a smaller space can be much more liberating. A room can be designed much like a boat, with components serving like more than one issue, such as under-floor storage, steps that can be converted into chairs and sofas, pull-down beds and kitchen worktops.

These dwellings, which promise to solve the housing problem to an extent, are popular in countries like Japan and the US, where housing space is expensive and scarce. With urbanisation and globalisation gathering pace around the world, this trend is seen gathering steam in India as well.
