Redeveloped Homes For Mumbai Slum Dwellers At Rs 8L

The Maharashtra government has formulated a new payment plan for those who have been allotted slums between January 2000 and January 2011. According to the payment plan, these slum dwellers will have to pay nearly Rs 8 lakh for the new redeveloped homes. According to reports, there are over 18 lakh such slum dwellers who would be benefitting from this payment plan.

 This cost would include the construction cost for rehabilitation, the cost of infrastructure development for basic and emergency services in the redeveloped slum, and a percentage of other administrative costs incurred by the Slum Redevelopment Authority.

According to officials, the overall cost of building these homes, spread in an area of 269 sq ft each, under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority’s (SRA) scheme would be around Rs 5 lakh, another Rs 2 lakh could be charged for infrastructural development while Rs 1 lakh will be the estimated cost of administrative services.  However, these costs may vary depending on the location of the property.

Additionally, if the dweller is an eligible beneficiary under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Scheme, they could further get a rebate of Rs 2.5 lakh.

While a special cell has been created for the allotment of these homes, a provisional cost of the house will be declared by SRA once the Letter of Intent is issued for the project in which it is being developed.

The beneficiary will have to pay a provisional amount before the allotment letter is sent to them while the remaining difference can be paid in the next three months (extendable by another three months) . Once the payment is made, the beneficiary would be given possession of the home.

This plan is part of the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis-led government’s slum redevelopment policy aimed at making Mumbai slum-free.
