    Paying tribute to India’s Iron Man Sardar Vallabhai Patel on his 143rd birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31 unveiled the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. The statue, constructed at a cost of Rs 2,989 crore, is located on the river island of Sadhu Bet facing the Narmada Dam near Rajpipla. The 182-metre tall statue has been termed as the world’s tallest – twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty in the US.

    Modi To Lay Foundation Stone For Mumbai Metro's Line 5

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 18 will inaugurate the Metro Line-5 of the Mumbai Metro network that will connect Kapurbawdi in Thane West to Kalyan via Bhiwandi. The PM, along with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, will also lay the foundation stone for the Metro Line-9 (Dahisar- Mira Bhayander). The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is in the process of selecting contractors and general consultant for the project after the project was approved in October 2017. The project is expected to be completed by 2022.

    New Development Plan: Taller Mumbai Will Have 10 L Affordable Homes By 2034

    The Maharashtra government has sanctioned the Mumbai Development Control and Promotion Regulations 2034. The new plan is expected to open up over 3,700 hectares of land in the city’s no-development zone and salt-pan land. This large tract of land is likely to be used for developing residential real estate in the affordable category. According to the plan, nearly 10 lakh affordable houses will be constructed by 2034. It was earlier this year that the DCPR 2034 was passed by the government.

    Indian Cities That Are Free From Air Pollution

    A recent report published by Greenpeace India listed 280 Indian cities ranked according to their particulate matter (PM10) levels. Among many cities in north India which have dangerously high PM10 levels, the national capital was at the top spot. Hassan in Karnataka has consistently appeared among the least polluted cities in India with a PM10 level of 26 microgram per cubic metre (µg/m3). Few cities in Kerala, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal, Meghalaya and Chhattisgarh managed to scrape through with PM10 levels lower than the annual permissible concentration of 60 µg/m3 set under the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).
