    • PM Modi Inaugurates 135-Km Western Peripheral Expres

      Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 19 inaugurated the 83-km-long Kundli-Manesar section of this infrastructure project; the remaining 53-km stretch has been operational since April 2016. The expressway will offer signal-free connectivity to Palwal from Sonepat, bypassing Delhi. The expressway highway together with the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, will divert as many as 50,000 heavy vehicles away from Delhi.

    • Engineless, Semi-Bullet Train To Link Delhi With Kol

      The Indian Railways is all set to connect Delhi and Kolkata with India’s first indigenously built, engineless Train-18. The semi-bullet train is expected to cover the 1,400-km distance in 12 hours, as against the current 18-hour run. The new fleet of trains is being developed under the Indian Railways’ Mission Raftaar, and will run at an average speed of 160 km per hour on 9,000-km main trunk routes. These 16-coach trains will be completely air-conditioned, offering Wi-Fi connectivity and on-board infotainment for the passengers.

      Amid rising heat on the Prime Minister Modi-led government to speed up construction process to deliver its promise of building houses for all by 2022, the environment ministry has decided to ease green norms for large residential projects. In a notification published on November 15, the ministry has laid that residential projects with a built-up area of 20,000-50,000 square metre (sqm) would no longer require an environmental clearance, a move that is likely to speed up the construction process.

The new plan is expected to open up over 3,700 hectares of land in the city’s no-development zone and salt-pan land. It was earlier this year that the DCPR 2034 was passed by the government.
