Jhansi is a historic city in Uttar Pradesh, situated on the banks of the Pahuj river, in the extreme south of the state. It is renowned particularly for its role in the so-called Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. At a distance of 292 kilometres from the state capital of
Lucknow, and 415 kilometres from New
Delhi,
Jhansi is often called the Gateway to Bundelkhand. It lies between the rivers Pahuj and Betwa.
City infrastructure
Jhansi Railway Junction is well connected to many prominent cities like Secunderabad,
Delhi,
Chennai,
Mumbai, Bengaluru,
Pune, etc. It is also the technical stoppage and intercity hub for many important trains, including the Taj Express, Tamil Nadu Express, Kerala Express, and
Bhopal Express.
With some major national highways (NH-12A, NH-25, NH-26, NH-75, and NH-76) passing through the city,

There has also been an announcement for the construction of an airport in
Jhansi to promote tourism in Bundelkhand. The citys infrastructure witnessed a significant boom due to the construction of the Golden Quadrilateral Highway Project. The four-lane national highway has reached the last stage of its completion.
Jhansi was among the cities chosen to be developed under the Centres Smart Cities Mission. Two new platforms are being planned to be constructed at the
Jhansi Junction railway station.
