    Kant Enclave: SC Extends Deadline To Vacate Houses Till July

    After terming the situation ‘frightening’, and ordering for the demolition of the Faridabad township Kant Enclave in September last year, the Supreme Court on January 14 extended the deadline to vacate the houses of the owners, whose buildings were ordered to be demolished due to illegal construction, till July 31 from March 31. However, the extension is subjected to the furnishing of an undertaking within four weeks starting from January 14.

    SC Slams Haryana For Allowing Construction Activity In Aravalli

    The Supreme Court (SC) came heavily on the Haryana government on March 1 for lifting a construction ban on the Aravalli green belt and ordered to hold off implementing the law for now. It was on February 27 that the state assembly had passed the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) Amendment Bill, 2019. This amended act was expected to open the Aravalli range in Gurgaon and Faridabad for real estate development, mining and quarrying.

    Faridabad is soon going to have a metropolitan development authority of its own. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has recently announced constituting Faridabad authority on the lines of the Gurugram Metro Development Authority.

    Cabinet Approves 3 Corridors Under Delhi Metro Phase-IV

    The Union Cabinet on March 7 approved Phase-IV of the Delhi Metro, paving the way for the construction of three new corridors, including the Mukundpur-Maujpur corridor, the RK Ashram-Janakpuri West corridor and the Aero City-Tughlakabad corridor. The combined length of these corridors will be 61.679 kilometre, spanning 46 Metro stations, 17 underground and 29 elevated. To be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 25,000 crore, the three corridors take the Metro deeper into the national capital, improving connectivity while at the same time reducing traffic congestion.

    Delhi To Have London-Like Metro-Rail Interlinked Corridor

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8 laid the foundation stone of the much-awaited Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) between Delhi and Meerut. The 82-km route would connect a number of townships along the corridor. There would be 16 stations, and the RRTS will reduce the travelling time between Delhi and Meerut to 55 minutes. The air-conditioned trains are designed to travel at a speed of 180km per hour and will be available at a frequency of 5-10 minutes.
