Delhi Grapples Amid Redevelopment, Pollution; EnviroA recent decision by the Delhi government, where the Forest Department had allowed the felling of about 17,000 full-grown trees as part of the redevelopment of central government housing projects in south Delhi, has sparked protests from citizens, activists and environmentalists. Although the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has stated that ‘compensatory plantation’ of trees is being carried out in a ratio of 1:10, many environmentalists are not convinced as the saplings planted at a different location cannot substitute the huge tree cover which would be cleared away.

Govt Approves 51 L Homes Under PMAY-U; MIG Homes AreThe government has approved another set of 3.18 lakh homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U). The new addition takes the total number of homes under PMAY-U to 51 lakh. Of the 3.18 lakh homes, 2.48 lakh have been approved in Maharashtra, 31,304 in Rajasthan, 23,564 in Tamil Nadu, 13,889 in Chhattisgarh, 1,580 in Puducherry and 203 in Daman and Diu.
53 Gurgaon Villages Set To Become Urban AreasThe Department of Town and Country Planning is planning to declare 53 villages in Gurgaon as urban areas. With that, Section 7A of the Urban Areas Act, 1975, would apply on development of these 53 villages. When that happens, a seller will have to seek a no-objection certificate from the department to sell his land. The registration department would seek this document at the time of the registration of the property.
