Delayed For A Decade, RTR Flyover Still Struggles For Attention

The Raja Tula Ram Flyover was proposed as a two-carriageway stretch but got converted into a single-lane flyover in 2009 due to objections raised by the residents calling it a constant source of ‘noise pollution’. While the single-carriageway flyover created further traffic bottlenecks, a parallel road was finally proposed in November 2014 which has already missed three deadlines. Now, the latest deadline has been set to December 2018 for which the Public Works’ Department is racing against time.

Delhi Metro’s 7 Subways In South To Provide Ease Of Walking

In order to provide ease of commuting, the Delhi Metro is going to build seven subways along the Magenta Line near the Outer Ring Road. The plan is to build seven underpasses for pedestrians at Munirka, RK Puram, IIT, Panchsheel Park, Chirag Delhi, Greater Kailash and Nehru Enclave. These subways will be operational by mid-April. Through their multiple exits and entry points, these subways would help non-Metro travellers, too.

Delhi Starts Riding On BS-VI Fuel Ahead Of Schedule

While most of us have been waiting for April 1 next year to switch to Bharat Stage (BS)-VI fuel, the national capital has already made the transition way ahead of the schedule. According to media reports, all 397 petrol pumps in Delhi have been selling cleaner diesel and petrol since February. Also, while the oil ministry had set 2020 the deadline for the launch of BS-VI fuel, the Supreme Court on March 26 has asked it to advance the dateline by one year in 13 metro cities.

IIT Students Design Eco-Friendly Toilets For Homes

Since the launch of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014, the Indian government has till now successfully ensured toilets across several rural areas of the country spanning over 1 lakh villages, 450 cities and 77 districts. The government, recently, offered Open-Defecation Free status to three states viz. Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala. In an effort to support the government's sanitation programmes, a group of IIT Madras students have designed an environment-friendly toilet using discarded PET bottles, which would replace bricks and is believed to be a cost effective method.
