A suburb in eastern Mumbai, Chembur is situated at a distance of 22 kilometres from the city centre. The neighbouring suburbs include Deonar, Kurla, Govandi, Mahul, Ghatkopar, and Chunabhatti. Several colonies such as BPCL, Tilak Nagar, Pestom, Chedda Nagar, Tata Colony, HPCL, Shell Colony, and Indian Oil Nagar on Mankhurd Link Road fall in the area. This area has a cosmopolitan population dominated by Sindhis, Maharashtrians, and South Indians. Connectivity

Chembur boasts of excellent connectivity to the different parts of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai via key arterial roads like Dayanand Saraswati Marg, VN Purab Marg, RC Marg, Station Avenue Road, the Eastern Express Highway and Sion Panvel Highway. Autorickshaws, taxis, and BEST buses form a robust public transport system. As far as the railway service is concerned, the Harbour Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway has a station in Chembur. Commuters can make use of suburban trains bound for Mumbai CST, Andheri, and Panvel which run throughout the day. For long distance trains, one can easily access the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus which lies in close proximity. Line 1 of Mumbai Monorail which opened in February 2014 has a terminus at Chembur.
This area is also an important road transit point for people travelling to Pune using the Mumbai-Pune Highway or the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. South Mumbai is also easily accessible from this area through 13 kilometres long elevated expressway. The Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR) that connects Chembur to Santacruz has recently become operational.
