City Beat: Hyderabad Home To 8,200 Millionaires & 7 Billionaires
In what could be a positive move, a steering committee on Greenfield airports has recommended a site clearance for the second greenfield airport in Telangana. The airport, once it receives all the required approvals, will be constructed at Kothagudem. The state already has an airport in Hyderabad. This move is in line with the Centre's Regional Connectivity Scheme that aims to strengthen air connectivity by promoting affordable flying.
In another positive development, according to a latest report by the New World Wealth, the city of Nawabs, Hyderabad, has been ranked as the fourth wealthiest city in India with a total wealth of $310 billion. It further unveils that the city has 8,200 millionaires and seven billionaires. It should be noted that the country, according to the report, is expected to benefit from the strong growth in local financial services, IT, real estate, healthcare and media sectors.
Meanwhile, to kickstart the smart city project and foster innovation in Internet of Things (IoT), the state government has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with US-based technology major Cisco. Under the MoU, the two will undertaking various initiatives, including deployment of Digital Zone smart city project and a centre of excellence (CoE) and living lab in T Hub. The pilot project for this will be implemented near Hyderabad's Hi-Tech City. The pilot project will see deployment of City Digital Platform (CDP) including smart Wi-Fi, smart parking, smart lighting, and traffic analytics at key junctions, Remote Expert for Government Services (REGS), smart environmental sensors, smart waste management, and a smart control center to monitor and manage the city with greater efficiency and effectiveness. Moreover, Cisco will also set up virtual classrooms in 10 schools in Karimnagar, along with providing digital solutions at the Qutubshahi tombs of Hyderabad.
