The year 2016 was no different. Worldwide, large-scale real estate sale and purchases were made by celebrities that kept the world of property abuzz throughout the year. MakaaniQ takes you through some of the most-talked about property deals of 2016:

Sold after split

After Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie announced their separation in September this year, their New Orlean's property, French Quarters, was sold in October-end. The five-bedroom townhouse was sold for $4.9 million. The 1930s-built masonry residency was bought by the now-estranged couple back in 2007 for $3.5 million.

The Bachchan couple's villa in Dubai

Star couple Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan bought a villa in Dubai's Jumeirah Golf Estates in July this year. The mansion is a part of 97-villa project, Sanctuary Falls, that overlooks the Earth Course, an 18-hole championship golf course.

Ranbir Kapoor's double strike

Rockstar actor Ranbir Kapoor in May this year bought a Rs 35-crore abode in Mumbai. The flat is spread in an area of 2,460 sq ft and is on the seventh floor of a 12-storey luxurious project in Vastu Pali Hill. The actor and his father, Rishi Kapoor, also bought one apartment each in Pune's Trump Towers in October. Each flat is worth Rs 13 crore, and is built in an area of 6,100 sq ft.

Ellen DeGeneres' real estate tricks

Host of the popular talk show series, the Ellen DeGeneres Show, is known for her love of real estate. This year, DeGeneres sold one of her properties for the second time. A 4,000-sq-ft mansion in Hollywood Hills West was built in the 1950s. DeGeneres had first sold this property in 2007 for $10 million. She then bought it back in 2014 for $8.75 million, and sold it again this year in August for $9.9 million.

Emilia Clarke's Venice dream

Known as Khaleesi for her portrayal of the character in popular television show Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke bought herself a lavish property in Venice for $4.64 million. This is a beach-facing property, with two bedrooms, three bathrooms and a 30-foot pool.

Tobey Maguire's superpad

Superman series star Tobey Maguire in November bought himself a new mansion in Brentwood for $13 million. It's a modern traditional mansion, featuring six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. It is a three-level property that has two brick chimneys, light oak floors, and vaulted ceiling.

Richard Gere's selling stroke

The Pretty Woman actor played a master stroke and sold his fabulous Sag Harbor compound in the Hamptons for $36.5 million. This property was bought by Today anchor Matt Lauer. Gere was initially demanding $65 million for the property. Gere had bought this property in three parts during 2005-2008 for a total of $11.3 million.

Ricky Martin's uno deal

Singer Ricky Martin bought a fabulous property in Beverly Hills for $13.5 million this year. This property was built in 1953 and had four bedrooms, two baths and walls of windows. But, it was rebuilt in 2014 by a local developer. The new mansion is spread in an area of 11,300 sq ft, and has seven bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms.

Leonardo DiCaprio's quick deal

Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio in December sold his Studio City ranch home for $2.3 million. The actor, who is an environment activist as well, has also listed his Malibu property for $11 million. Built in 1930, the ranch property has four bedrooms and two baths.

Lady Gaga's latest gig

Popular singer Lady Gaga in September bought musician Frank Zappa's house of Los Angeles. Zappa lived in this house, which he bought in the mid-70s for $75,000, till he died in 1993. The property was listed in June for $5.49 million, and was bought by Lady Gaga for $5.25 million. Spread in an area of 6,759 sq ft, the mansion has six bedroom, seven bathrooms and flaunts a Tudor décor. It also has a rooftop tennis court and a greenhouse.
