Kolkata Civic Body Eases Norms to Get Water Connection

In a major relief for flat owners in Kolkata, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has eased the norms to avail of water connections. Thousands of residents were at the receiving end as developers used to sell apartments without getting the mandatory completion certificate from the authorities concerned. In the mayor-in-council meeting held recently, the KMC passed a resolution which empowered such flat owners to apply for a fresh water connection. According to Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, tax-payers should not suffer because of developers.

However, to be eligible to avail of the benefits of the new rule, a flat owner must be a registered tax-payer and the apartment should be in a building which has G+4 height.

Developers in the city were in the eye of storm as they often short-change buyers by deviating from the sanctioned plan. In order to escape heavy penalties, they often don't apply for completion certificate. In their absence, flat owners were unable to apply for a water connection.
