Why Baking Soda Is A Must-Have Household Item

We all keep baking soda handy. After all it is an essential ingredient as far as cooking goes. This is the ingredient that helps you bake that perfect the cake; this product also helps your bahura go bigger. A pinch if this ingredient is enough to turn around many of your recipes in a magical way. But, that is not all that baking soda does. It is also an important ingredient to keep your home spic and span. Known to be effective and affordable, a small box of sodium bicarbonate salt is all you need to keep your home clean. In fact, it can be a great alternative to the expensive and chemical-laden products that can be harsh on your home.

MakaaniQ lists ways in which baking soda could help you clean up your home:

Remove stains

See a coffee stain on your bedsheet? Rub baking soda on the stain and wash it under running water. The stain will be gone. If it still remains, soak up the stained area overnight. You could also remove stains from your house walls in case you think they have become dirty or have become a canvas for your little ones. Just rub some baking soda and clean with damp cloth. Baking soda also removes stains from microwave, too.

Freshen up spaces

Baking soda acts a freshener, too. Place an opened box in the musty corners or cabinets and the area will freshen up quickly. Want to neutralise odour that is being produced in your refrigerator due to various types of food in it? Store an open box of baking soda in the refrigerator. Place it in the back of one of the shelves. The smell your carpet oozes if it has not been dry-cleaned or washed for long can also be taken care of by this ingredient. Just sprinkle the soda, let it stay overnight and vacuum it the next day. Baking soda can also remove smell from sponges you use to clean utensils and de-stink your trash can.

Fight fire

In case there is a small grease fire (where your pan catches fire), baking soda can be of help. In such a case, sprinkle baking soda to smother the flames. Soda emits carbon dioxide that helps bring down the flames.
