London's skyline has always been a beauty to behold with many modern-day glass structures set amidst the vintage British architecture. Some of the contemporary structures that the city houses include The Shards, 30 St Mary Axe, 20 Fenchurch, The Lloyds Building, among others. While these structures are standing tall, London Spire is the latest addition to the celebrated list. Upon completion in 2020, it would be western Europe's tallest residential skyscraper.

MakaaniQ lists interesting facts about this £800-million residential project:

Where: The skyscraper will be constructed in east London on a site that would overlook West India Quay near Canary Wharf. This area is one of the poshest and major business districts of London, housing some of the tallest buildings, including One Canada Square, the second tallest structure in the United Kingdom.

Designed by: This ambitious project is the brainchild of China-based developer Greenland Group and American architecture company HOK.  The interiors will be designed by Nicola Fontanella of Argent Design.

The architecture: This structure will stand tall at 789 foot and will have 67 storeys. Being pegged as the tallest residential tower in western Europe, the most striking feature of London Spire would be its petal-shaped design. A one-of-its-kind architectural design, when looked from the top it would look like a combination of three petals or sails. The design is inspired by the orchid flower.

The tower will provide 861 apartments in affordable apartments, private apartments, and duplex penthouses segments. The affordable category will have 60 apartments that will be housed in Limehouse and will be linked to the main structure.

It will be a glass-and-bronze-clad structure offering five-star lifestyle amenities, including a spa and a club bar, concierge, retailing and private gardens.

The landscape: The London Spire development will also involve a significant landscaping, creating a space which is beautiful inside out. The landscaping would be done in outdoors around shops and cafes, giving a whole new look and feel to West India Quay. The building will also exclusively feature community spaces including glass winter gardens, landscaped roof terraces, public open spaces, and well-designed external and internal children’s play areas that would allow them to learn music, play interactive games and graphics.

The view: The building has been designed and placed such that it would provide the best of the panoramic view of the London city. Sitting on the banks of River Thames, one could enjoy the view of the city's nature as well as the beautiful skyline. But, all this comes with a price tag, as the apartments that would promise a panoramic view will be reserved for the private buyers that invest in luxurious suites and duplex penthouses. According to reports, one-bedroom luxurious suites will be put on sale for a starting price of more than half a million pounds.
