Tips To Take Care Of Outdoor Furniture
Outdoor furniture bears varied harsh weather conditions ranging from direct sunlight to rain, dew, and even harsh winds. However, this furniture is must for those who love to relax outdoors and enjoy the weather. Given that outdoor furniture tolerates so much, it demands extra care and regular cleaning. A regular maintenance not only saves your furniture from damage but also makes it last for years to come.
Here are some tips to help you maintain your outdoor furniture:
As teak weathers, a silver-gray coating forms over it. However, the process of formation of the coating depends on the amount of rain and sunlight exposure. To keep your teak furniture from damaging, simply clean it using an equal amount of mild detergent and water. For harsh coatings, you can also use teak cleaner or protectant. Sandpaper can also be used to remove the stains.
Wicker furniture is handwoven from high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The easiest way to clean wicker furniture is by using a mild soap/detergent and water. However, avoid using chlorine and saltwater. Keep your wicker furniture from open flames, fire and artificial heat.
Aluminium furniture has almost 100 per cent aluminium crafting. Some may be fully casted while some only has few parts made from aluminium. It should be cleaned regularly with mild soap and lukewarm water. However, do not use abrasive cleaners as they can harm the metal. Clear automobile wax, once a year, can also be applied on the furniture for longevity.
Beside aluminium, outdoor furniture is also made from other metals. Furniture of such metals are finished with a protective coating but the finish can gradually vanish due to exposure to different climatic conditions. Inspect your metal furniture regularly and if you see the varnish is bubbling or a layer of rust has been formed, then apply a new coat of paint or varnish to protect the metal. Wiping the furniture with a damp cloth should be a regular practice.
Fabrics of the outdoor furniture are generally durable, but can get affected by dirt and dust and exposure to sun. Vacuum the cushions regularly and to remove dirt and stain, use a sponge or soft bristle brush to cleanse. A solution of mild detergent in water is perfect to clean the cushion fabrics.
