Located in the Kant Kalwar area of Jaipur, the institute was commissioned by the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) of India, after the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) chose India as the centre for imparting environmental and sustainable development audit. The iCED houses residential and institutional centres along with sports facilities. The total built up area is of 3,30,000 sq. feet on a site of 16.5 acres.

The project has been developed on the GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) principles and is based on the sustainable design concept. The building has been constructed of local materials in order to reduce cost of transportation and carbon emissions. Some of the other salient features of the building include-

• Minimum environmental footprint
• Use of Flyash materials
• Overhangs and fins to enhance building envelope
• Skylights for daylight
• LED and efficient lighting- 100% external lighting on solar PV cells
• Insulation of walls/roofs
• Geothermal cooling
• Self contained solid waste management system

Elaborating on the iCED's green features, Mr. Prasoon Shrivastava, Director- Arkiplan International says "The International Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development is a prestigious project for Arkiplan. CAG was very clear with the mandate- our task was to build a sustainable structure with minimum impact on the environment.

Drawing on our global expertise combined with use of local raw materials and introduction of various energy efficient systems, we were able to accomplish the task well within time. Our main focus throughout was remaining sensitive to the environment while embracing the highest technological standards.

Arkiplan remains committed to working with its partners in creating self sustaining green buildings using global best practices".

The honourable Vice President of India Mr. Hamid Ansari inaugurated the iCED in the presence of Governor of Rajasathan Mrs. Margaret Alva and Comptroller and Auditor General of India Mr. Vinod Rai.
