Miami's Fisher Island Pips Beverly Hills As US' Richest Zip Code
Leaving behind California’s Beverly Hills (90210), Miami’s Fisher Island (33109) has now emerged as the richest zip code of the United States of America (US). The zip code that houses the elite has emerged as the leader in the category for the first time.
Based on the 2015 Internal Revenue Service (IRS) data, Bloomberg has reported that Fisher Island is the richest zip code. The data evaluates zip codes across the the country with more than 200 tax returns as of the 2015 filing season, and with 500 residential households, according to the latest Census tally.
According to the data, the average income of a dweller at Fisher Island was $2.5 million in 2015 while the average income in Silicon Valley (94027), the city that holds the second spot, was $1 million lesser. Silicon Valley is a part of the City of Atherton on the San Francisco Peninsula. Moreover, Fisher Island is the only zip code, according to Bloomberg, where more than 50 per cent of all the tax returns had an income of over $200,000.

Location:Â Located in south of Florida, just off the Miami coast, the island, is known to house the elite and can exclusively be accessed by either ferry or water taxis only. The island is spread in an area of 216 acre.
Demographics: The census of 2000, shows over 467 people, 218 households, and 149 families live in the Fisher Island. With over 532 housing units, the island has a diverse population of over 50 nationalities. Most of the people who live here are athletes, super models, corporate executives and lawyers. Some of the prominent names that reside here permanently or temporarily include American designer and model and Boris Becker’s former wife Barbara Feltus, Argentine TV host, actress and model Susana Giménez, American billionaire and chairman of Syntel Bharat Desai, American TV host and actress Oprah Winfrey and American politician Harold Ford Sr., among others.
Luxury: Regarded as one of the most exclusive clubs in Miami, the residents enjoy various luxurious amenities at the Fisher Island Club. Some of the amenities offered at the resort include an exquisite nine-hole golf course, spa, tennis court and a private beach.

These largely are of two types, medium-sized that have a setup of two to four bedrooms and large-sized that have five to six bedrooms.
Real estate trends: According to a report by Southfloridahomespot.com, a real estate site selling properties in South Florida, during the first half of 2017, properties in Fisher Island sold for a price range of $2.1 million-$35 million. The property worth $35 million was sold in May 2017, a penthouse at Palazzo del Sol Condo. Known as Penthouse 2, the property has a private elevator, floor-to-ceiling impact windows and doors, living area spread over 9,715 square foot (sqf), 6,798sqf rooftop deck, a private pool and terraces spread over 1,797 sqf. This is the most expensive property ever sold in Fisher Island.
According to Trulia, an online real estate platform, the median sales price of property in Fisher Island is $5.3 million while the per sqf price stands at $1,592 and the median per month rent is $30,000.
