SDMC To Launch Scheme; Senior Citizens Will Be Able To Pay Property Tax At Home
In a move that would benefit over 1.25 lakh senior taxpayers in the city, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided to provide doorstep assistance for property tax collection.
Under the scheme, which is likely to be launched by December, the SDMC will send its officials at the residences of the elderly to assist them in filing property tax return and make the payment. Using a helpline number, senior citizens will be able to make a call and fix an appointment for the representatives of the SDMC to visit them for this purpose. They will be able to make the payment in cash as well as through cheques.
Currently, senior citizens have to visit the zonal office to pay property tax.
“The senior citizens have been facing difficulties in visiting far away offices of property tax and banks for making payment of their property tax,” an SDMC official was quoted by the media as saying.
Apart from helping taxpayers in the age bracket of 60 and above, the move will also the municipal body to increase its tax collection. The SDMC, the richest municipal body in the national capital, has a total of 4.5 lakh property taxpayers, of which 1.25 lakh are senior citizens.
It is worth mention here that the Delhi government launched home delivery of as many as 40 services in September this year.
