Coming Soon In Gurgaon: Professionally Managed City Bus Service
The Haryana government has said it would introduce a professionally managed city bus service in Gurgaon to promote public transport and reduce people's dependency of private vehicles. Under the project, 500 new buses will be deployed in the city.
An official spokesperson said that to provide safe, reliable, clean and affordable city bus service, the state government had formed the Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL), a company with the specific mandate to plan and implement the city bus service.
The Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) would be a 50 per cent shareholder of the GMCBL while the Municipal Corporation Gurgaon (MCG) would be a 40 per cent shareholder. The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HSIIDC) would be a 10 per cent shareholder.
The official said that the GMCBL mandate would be to engage bus operators who would be responsible for procuring, deploying, operating and maintaining of the city buses.
He said that the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) was requested to conduct the bus route planning and rationalisation study covering various services.
