Residents of Sohna, going to Delhi and Gurugram, will soon be facing long traffic snarls at Badshahpur and at Subhash Chowk traffic signals during the peak hours as the work on Sohna Elevated Road has started on June 25, 2019. The upcoming elevated corridor, which will connect Sohna with Subhash Chowk in Gurugram, will be a combination of a flyover and an underpass. The project is expected to become operational by 2022.

At present, work on the five-km stretch between Subhash Chowk and Badshahpur is underway. Due to the construction work, one lane each of three-lane carriageways between Central Park II and JMD metropolis, have been blocked. This traffic diversion is expected to continue until the project is completed. The blockage would impact the traffic flow between Subhash Chowk and Vatika Chowk. In the second phase, an underpass around Subhash Chowk would be constructed that would affect mobility around the junction. In the last phase, the width of the carriageways at Islampur Village would be increased by three lanes that would affect movement around Rajiv Chowk.

The entire project has been divided into two parts. During the first phase, a nine-km stretch between Rajiv Chowk and Badshahpur will be widened by building a flyover and an underpass at a cost of Rs 700 crore while in the second phase, a 12-km elevated road will be built between Badshahpur and GD Goenka University in Sohna via Bhondsi, Ghamroj and Alipur at a cost of Rs 600 crores. This elevated route will provide alternate connectivity to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway from the National Highway-48 (NH-48) near Rajiv Chowk.

Encroached land a major concern

According to the National Highways Authority of India project director Ashok Sharma, the removal of unauthorised construction in Badshahpur is expected to be completed in the next 15 days. Once this is done, the service lane will be expanded into two lanes and that would reduce the congestion on the stretch.
