Delhi’s RTR Flyover Now Open For Public Use
People taking the Outer Ring Road to reach Gurugram and the Indira Gandhi International Airport will now be able to skip the congested Rao Tula Ram Marg crossing near Munirka as the 2.7-km flyover parallel to the existing RTR flyover becomes operational. Inaugurated by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on July 16, 2019, the flyover runs between Munirka and Army Research and Referral Hospital near Subroto Park near the National Highway-8 (NH-8). It runs parallel to the RTR flyover that runs between IIT Gate and Munirka. The existing RTR was converted into a single-lane flyover in 2009 due to objections raised by the residents calling it a constant source of ‘noise pollution’. The single-carriageway flyover created further traffic bottlenecks, following which a new stretch was proposed.

The plan
The initial plan was to construct a two-way 900-meter flyover between IIT Gate and Munirka but due to change in plans, a single-lane flyover came into existence. The parallel road which is 2.7-km long, runs along the RTR Flyover from Munirka petrol pump and ends before the NH-8, close to the Army Hospital at Subroto Park. The older bridge is now restricted for commuters moving from the airport to Delhi.Â
