Book A Cab For Rs 15 To Board Chennai Metro
If you live close to one of the Metro stations in Chennai and commuting to the station happens to be an affair that tests your haggling skills daily, here is something to cheer you up.
Under a soon-to-be launched facility, you would be able to call and book a cab for yourself to pick and drop you to the station if you live within three kilometres of a Metro station. And guess what? You will be paying only Rs 15 for the facility—all thanks to the Chennai Metro.
In a facility that is expected to launch soon, commuters will be able to customer care number 18604251515 and book a cab. Initially, the services will be launched across five stations-- Anna Nagar East, AG-DMS, Vadapalani, Alandur and Koyambedu. The Chennai Metro plans to cover the entire network by and by.
Through various attempts, the Chennai Metro Rail has been trying to improve the last-mile connectivity for users. On August 11, it launched shared auto facility at eight stations, including Ashok Nagar, Alandur, Ekkatuthangal, Guindy, Koyambedu, St. Thomas Mount and Thirumangalam.
In August, a regular cab facility was also launched at the five stations where the new pick-up facility is being launched. A commuter can avail of the shared auto and cab services between 6:30 am and 9:30 pm. While Rs 10 has been fixed as the rate for availing of auto services, riders will have to pay Rs 15 for cab. This project will be run on a pilot basis for six months. The cars and autos will run every half-hour from each of the stations. Depending on the response, the Chennai Metro will increase the frequency.
