Centre Approves Surat Metro Rail Project
Metro services would soon make way into Gujarat’s Surat with the Centre on March 8 approving Phase-I of the Surat Metro Project under which two corridors will be constructed at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore. The project, which will be completed in next five years by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC), will be funded by the Central and the state government.
Corridor-I: Running 21.61 km, the first corridor between Sarthana and Dream City will have 20 Metro stations. This route will cover some of the key industrial areas in Surat, making commute easy for those who work in these areas.
Of the total stretch, 6.4 km will be underground while the remaining will be elevated.

Corridor-II: The 18.74-km corridor will connect Bhesan and Saroli, and will have 18 stations. The route will connect some of the major and emerging residential real estate markets of Surat.

On a positive note
Surat’s commercial as well as residential real estate markets are going to witness a positive business with the development of this mass transit project. While the first corridor will cater to some of the most prominent commercial areas of the city, the second corridor is focused on the residential markets.
