The pride of being an absolute property owner notwithstanding, as a single woman in India, you enjoy many benefits. Banks provide you home loans at cheaper rates, the stamp duty charges in case of a woman owner is less in most of the states. You also enjoy tax sops of various kinds. This largesse offered by the authorities to improve the property ownership among women is actually working wonders. More and more single women are seen investing in property across major Indian cities early in their professional careers.

Once you have made up your mind to invest in a property, your key area of focus shifts towards finding a secure place. You keep reading reports of the rising crime cases against women, and living alone means you would have to exercise a lot of caution on the safety front. You research hard and find a safe locality, a safe apartment society, and a safe unit to live in — the locality is posh, the gated society has several security guards, and the unit has security cameras in place. This does sound like a great planning to keep unpleasant occurrences at bay.
But, you may be wrong if you thought you had got it all figured out.

You decided to buy your home in a locality that is far from the city centre; you wanted to stay away from the hustle-bustle of the city life. Also, you could afford a bigger unit here. To enjoy the quiet life of suburbs, you drive a four-wheeler up and own for about three hours every day to go to work. Even if you are quite passionate about driving, it is highly unlikely you would want to fight the road traffic each day to reach office in time. For all you know, by and by, driving could cease to look like a fun activity to you. You also have to keep in mind the fact that women drivers have certain challenges to face. This should not be laughed off as too frivolous a reason to consider while buying a home in a far-off locality. A smaller unit closer to the city and your workplace would be ideal even if you have wait for a couple of years to buy one.

And then, you have to think of emotional support system, too.

The world has turned into a global village and all of that, but settling in a city that is very far from the city where your family lives might not be a bright idea. For single women, it is imperative to stay closer to their families. You would also need in close proximity your trusted friends and well-wishers.

Neha Rahi, 29, has bought a flat in Noida in a society where her colleague lives.
“This person was my one-stop shop for all queries. That part, you need around people you can trust when you live alone,” says Rathi.
