Standing in Harmony: 5 Iconic Twin Towers Across The Globe

In  the past two decades, modern-day architecture has evolved and reached new heights with interesting and functional concepts. These modern structures have become iconic symbols of excellence given the rigorous planning, designing and construction techniques.

One such type of architecture that emerged in the modern day was twin towers. In this type of structure, two identical towers stand together in harmony.

Bahrain Financial Harbour, Bahrain

Bahrain Financial Harbour is a commercial complex in the capital city, Manama. A 260-metre tall structure, it is designed as a mixed-use building which houses a 12-storey Harbour House and a seven-storey Financial Mall complex. The Harbour House has restaurants, cafes, sea-front walkways and boulevards, while the Financial Mall complex houses both retail and financial and corporate offices. The construction of these 53-storey twin towers began in 2004 and it took five years for its completion. It was designed and constructed by AJ Architects and AI Hamad Construction Company, respectively. COWI, a Denmark-based international consulting group giving services in engineering, played a critical role in reviewing the contractor's design and site supervision for different structural works.

Emirates Towers, Dubai

Emirates Towers is a complex, comprising Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel and Emirates Office Tower. While hotel tower stands at 309 metres, the office complex is 355-metre tall. According to a report by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, the building stands as the 23rd tallest building in the world. The Boulevard, a 9,000-sqm structure connects the two towers. The uniqueness of the design is that the office tower comprises 54 floors and is still taller than the hotel tower which has 56 floors. Construction of the Emirates Towers began in 1996 and was opened for public in 2000. The structure was designed by NORR Architects Engineers Planners and the main contractor was Brookfield Multiplex.

Petronas Twin Towers, Malaysia

Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur are among the world's tallest buildings. Designed by the Argentine-born American architect Cesar Pelli, the project was completed in 1998. Both the towers are 1,483 feet tall, out of which 242 feet is for pinnacle and spire.  The two towers are linked by a Skybridge which is two-storey tall. The tower is made of high strength and steel-reinforced concrete and the facade is made of glass and stainless steel. The Petronas Towers were the tallest building in the world till 2004 after which Taipei 101 took over.

The Cullinan, Hong Kong

The Cullinan is located in Hong Kong's Union Square. The residential complex was named after the largest diamond in the world, Cullinan discovered in 1905. Both the towers of the complex are 270 meters tall and have 68 stories. The construction of Cullinan North Tower and the Cullinan South Tower was finished in 2008 and 2009, respectively. The structure was designed by Wong & Ouyang. It's striking feature is that residences here have glass curtain walls and appealing sight of the Victoria Harbour.

The Imperial, India

The Imperial is a residential twin-tower in Mumbai, the construction of which began in 2005 and was opened to public in 2010. Situated in Tardeo, South Mumbai, these twin towers were designed by renowned architect Hafeez Contractor. It is the tallest completed building in India. The tower is 256 meter tall with 60 floors. The Imperial Twin Towers are created on the former slum land.
