The Christmas season is here and so is the excitement that comes along with it! Have you planned how to celebrate the big day yet? We reached out to a few of our readers, each with a unique and creative theme for their Christmas tree. Let’s see how they plan to spread the Yuletide spirit.

A bejewelled Christmas

Susan and Arun Murali opted for an ethnic Christmas feel. An ‘Indi-Christmas’ as she calls it, Susan is trying her hand to jewel up her Christmas tree.

“Every year I do up the Christmas tree differently. This year, I am planning to load the tree and make it look chunky. Along with the usual gifts and hangings, I am putting up my bright bangles and red/golden necklaces to decorate it.” Her Santa is also going to turn up in a kurta, and ‘wouldn’t have a protruding belly’, she says, slyly pointing at her husband.

Ditching the plastic tree

“Why go artificial when I have the Cook Pine right in my garden?” asks Dalia Pinto, who is now used to the idea of decking up the original tree in her garden. “My mother used to decorate the real tree- Araucaria columnaris or the Cook Pine tree. We have had it in our garden for so long and every December we deck it up like a beauty,” she says.

Her family keeps moving cities but Christmas in Delhi is special and they keeping coming back to the city for the festivities every year. One of the important reasons to consider the real tree is the fact that storing an artificial plant occupies space.

“Besides the nostalgia and wanting to do just what my mum used to do, I am also particular that there should be more trees and plants around us. It gives my garden a great feel during Christmas and the house looks very welcoming from the outside too,” Pinto says.

A very white Christmas

For Patsy and Sajan John, their most memorable Christmas was spent in Colorado, several years back. This year, they will recreate the beauty of a white Christmas in Gurgaon!

“Gurgaon, during Christmas, is cold and yet, it doesn't  snow. We have planned a 'snow Christmas' theme,” Patsy chuckles. She plans to use minute balls of soft cotton and deck up the tree such that it reveals the oozing glow of the regular decoration that would be on the tree.

The bedroom décor

We have all been doing up our living rooms with a dominant, decorated Christmas tree all these years. However, for Chandni and Anirban Paul, this Christmas is very private and they are doing up their bedroom for it.

“Red bed sheets, green cushions, golden decorations, assorted tapestry and a huge Christmas tree decked in green leaf garlands, snowflakes, candy sticks, gifts—we are very excited,” the Pauls say. By profession, both of them are content curators for a top marketing company and “This is our way to take a few days off and enjoy the peace of Christmas.”

The DIY Christmas

Mercy, a photographer by profession, likes clicking pictures for fun, too. “I have a lot of pictures collected over the years and all these are going to be part of my Christmas décor. It’s a do-it-yourself Christmas for me and my sister and we are using our closet to deck the Christmas tree. Handcrafted stars, hangings made of stoles, small gift boxes that will go up as decoration wrapped in small cut pieces of clothes that were discarded. The idea is to recycle and re-use.” The only thing Mercy plans to buy is a copper LED light string to hold the pictures in place.
