About
Guwahati is the largest city in the state of Assam, and one of the fastest-growing cities of India. It has earned the title City of Temples, with its many Hindu temples. Guwahati lies between the bank of the Brahmaputra River and the foothills of the Shillong plateau. The Guwahati region has diverse wildlife and is home to rare animals like Asian elephants, pythons, tigers, rhinoceros, gaurs, primate species, and some endangered birds.

City infrastructure
The city boasts a relatively high quality of life and provides competitive residential and working environments enriched with picturesque landscapes, pleasant climate, modern shopping zones, well-equipped apartments and bungalows, and a rich social infrastructure.
A recent project undertaken in the area is a centrally funded four-lane, East-West Corridor that will pass through Guwahati connecting all the capitals of northeastern states. Once this project is complete, the whole region will be further uplifted by a significant degree.
Additionally, the transportation infrastructure of the city is on its way to improvement, with funding from the Asian Development Bank and a substantial assistance from the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. Apart from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati is also home to a number of other prestigious educational institutions. It is dotted with several government and private hospitals and medical clinics as well.
The city enjoys excellent connectivity via roads and rail. A Metro rail project in the works for the city will further address the traffic situation. Guwahati also figures among the Indian cities to be developed under the Centres Smart Cities Mission.

Real estate
The citys growing economy has largely contributed to the uplift of the real estate sector in the city. There has also been a surge in luxury real estate. The past decade has seen a flurry of developers foraying into the market, and there has been a steady rise in prices of residential properties.
Chandmari, Kharguli Road, Ambari, and GS Road are the real estate hubs of the city, while with middle-class home buyers prefer Jalukbari, Adabari, and Maligaon as their destination for a property buy. Upcoming locations like Kahilipara, Ganeshguri, and Lalganesh are also witnessing an escalation in real estate prices.

Lifestyle
Guwahati is one of the most popular hubs of tourism in the Northeast. Its tourism sector is supported by heritage sites, ancient temples, museums, historical monuments, archaeological sites, lakes and ponds. The prominent attractions include Kamakhya temple, Umananda temple, Basistha temple, Navagraha temple, Ugratara temple, Sukreswar temple, Dipor Bil, the Chandubi lake, Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, Assam State Museum, Regional Science Centre, and Guwahati Planetarium.
There also are ample sports-related infrastructure here, including the multipurpose Nehru Stadium, and Kanaklata Indoor Stadium. This city is famous for its rich cultural heritage and tradition which is reflected in its art & craft forms, music & dance, fairs, and festivals. Besides a number of art & craft galleries, Guwahati also houses a number of mobile theatres to provide entertainment. Its flourishing tourism industry has earned it the nickname Gateway to Northeast India.
