The work to expand the highway is under way, which will give a fillip to the housing sector in the area.

According to data released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, 10,000 km of highways have been constructed in the country in last fiscal year (2017-18) that ended March 2018. This has taken the daily average of road construction to 28 km per day against the average of 11 km in FY 2014. The number achieved is the highest so far.

Noida and Ghaziabad crossed the 300 mark as particulate matter-10 (PM10) levels touched a high on March 28. The situation was likely to prevail in the days to come, said experts.  According to another report by the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, six cities in India’s most populous state have nearly four times the PM10 level against the permissible limit. In this list of 24 cities where an air quality check was conducted in February, Ghaziabad leads this pack while Lucknow and Kanpur are listed at the second and third place, respectively.  Noida occupies the fourth place.

During a hearing on April 16, Jaypee Infratech had said that its valuation has been slashed drastically and had put forth an affidavit to the Supreme Court stating that with the help of interim funds, it can finish the flats. However, this proposal has been rejected by the apex court as the statute bars an ailing company to bid. Jaypee says that its representation should have been considered given that it had been completing 500 units every month.

In a major demolition drive by the Ghaziabad Development Authority, 25 acre of land along the floodplain has been freed. The land on which these construction activities had been going on is designated as floodplains in the GDA Master Plan 2021. No construction activity is permitted in this area. The total value of the land, say officials, could be between Rs 70-75 crore.
