In what could be termed as a major reformatory step in the real estate sector, the Gurgaon administration has capped registration charges for properties in licensed colonies at Rs 15,000. In a notification issued on April 2, the Gurgaon district town planner has ruled that real estate developers in the city could charge Rs 15,000 from homebuyers towards the administrative registration of flats.

After Delhi, the illegal constructions in Gurgaon has come under the scanner of civic authorities as major drives are being conducted across the town to remove squatters and encroachments from the streets and the residential colonies. In a recent move, three enforcement teams from the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) removed illegal occupants from 11 areas in the city which includes Sadar Bazaar, Jacobpura, Rajiv Chowk, Sohna Road, Subhash Chowk, Tikri village, sectors 40, 44, 45, Silokhra and Sikanderpur. These encroachments were also causing congestion on arterial roads.

To fasten the process of cleaning of sewers and better dumping facility of silt, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has picked up a 7.5-acre land in Narela to be used as silt dumping site. Although the area falls under the jurisdiction of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, the site will be managed by the east Delhi municipal authority.

The law mandates that Mumbai's civic body provide a closure to a citizen complaint pertaining to water supply, solid-waste management, etc., in a matter of three days. However, if the findings of a recent report by non-government body Praja Foundation are to be believed, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation takes over 15 days to resolve an issue. The report assessed data between March and December 2017 for the 24 wards in India's financial capital. The average time taken by the BMC to resolve an issue, says the report, is 48 days.

The Mumbai's municipal authority is developing a software that will digitally calculate the metre reading and generate the bill accordingly. This move is expected to put a stop to inflated water bills for the residents. On the other hand, the Delhi government says it would compensate consumers in case of power outages.
