Sholinganallur lies on the IT corridor OMR and is a suburb of Chennai. It lies in the Southern part of Chennai in Kanchipuram district. The area has seen rapid growth in terms of population, infrastructure and economy. The state government is preparing to launch various schemes in Sholinganallur for making a financial city in it.

Sholinganallur has strong connectivity between residential sites of the locality and to neighbouring areas. It is close to ECR and is connected to Akkari via ECR (East Coast Road). ECR is at a distance of two kilometres from here and many IT company offices are located in Sholinganallur, which can be reached conveniently by road. MTC buses and auto rickshaws connect it to the city. It is connected to the localities including Tambaram and Medavakkam via GST Road. Chennai Central Railway Station lies at a distance of 28 kilometres from Sholinganallur and Chennai International Airport lies at a distance of 21 kilometres from here.

Sholinganallur is developing rapidly into a residential hub. The population of the area is approximately 15,519 according to the 2001 India census and it is continuously increasing as the number of employees working in the IT companies nearby rises.
